Meta: Localized Illustrations That Highlight Community
Meta, dedicated to fostering connections through technology and community programs, aimed to showcase its local impact through a series of regional books highlighting key hub cities like Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Austin, and international efforts. To support this initiative, I developed a series of illustrations designed to resonate with policymakers—capturing authentic moments of connection and community.
I built and led a global team of illustrators, identifying local themes, cultural patterns, and real people to ensure authenticity. Together, we crafted a cohesive house style that maintained consistency while celebrating regional distinctions.
My art direction focused on capturing rich narratives and genuine moments from the communities Meta engaged. Each illustration incorporated region-specific details—Latin American weaving patterns, Asia-Pacific batik, Middle Eastern and North African textiles, and nods to Austin’s vibrant food culture—bringing cultural depth to every piece. We meticulously considered skin tones, attire, and accessories, ensuring each image was adaptable for diverse audiences, markets, and contexts.
